If you want to read about other customers’ experiences with compatible ink ordered from Pixojet.eu, you are welcome to check us out on Trustpilot.

What are the compatible ink cartridges?

Compatible ink cartridges are cartridges that are produced by a manufacturer independent of printers manufactures. They can therefore also be called non-original ink cartridges or copy printer cartridges.

This means that a compatible ink cartridge for e.g. a Brother inkjet printer is produced by a third party manufacturer and not by Brother itself. You will therefore notice that the packaging on Pixojet’s compatible ink cartridges does not exactly match the original cartridge boxes that you know from various store chains.

You will probably also pay attention to the fact that compatible ink cartridges are significantly cheaper than original ink cartridges. This is because the supply chain of compatible ink cartridges is smaller than the supply chain of original ink cartridges, and therefore compatible print cartridges can be sold at much lower prices.

Pixojet's cheap compatible ink cartridges should therefore not be seen as discount products - on the contrary. The quality and durability of our compatible inks are always top notch!

Advantages of compatible ink cartridges

There are several benefits to using compatible ink cartridges:

  Prices

The great advantage of using compatible printer cartridges is that you save an incredible amount of money on your total printing costs. Pixojet sells, for example, compatible ink cartridges, on which you save 90% on compared to similar original ink cartridges.

  The quality

The print quality when using affordable, compatible ink cartridges and colour cartridges is the same as using original printer cartridges, for which you pay a lot more. You can therefore safely print your documents, pictures etc. knowing that your prints maintain the same standard as if you had used the original ink for the purpose.

Many years ago, there was a big difference in ink quality in the compatible and original ink cartridges. This difference is non-existent today.

  High ink content

All Pixojet compatible ink cartridges contain significantly more ink than the original XL print cartridges from HP, Brother, Epson, Canon and others.

Despite the high ink content of our compatible ink cartridges, the prices of the cartridges are lower than the prices of original ink cartridges in the regular sizes, which contain significantly fewer ml of ink.

You thus get far more printed pages at a much cheaper price - win win!

  100% guarantee

Since we guarantee 100% of our compatible ink cartridges, we also provide a 100% guarantee on all our compatible inks.

Of course, we also provide the same guarantee on all our original printer cartridges.

If you unexpectedly find that your cartridges do not work as they should, we will immediately send you similar ink cartridges free of charge (provided that Pixojet's troubleshooting cannot solve your problem).

Disadvantages of compatible ink cartridges

Just as there are advantages to compatible ink cartridges, there may also be some disadvantages that you need to be aware of.

X - Error messages may occur

When you install compatible ink cartridges, you may find that the printer is reporting errors. Most often, the error message simply requires you to click 'OK' to continue. Further down in the article, you can see how to fix the most common error messages.

X -The quality depends on the manufacturer - choose compatible ink cartridges carefully

The quality of non-original ink cartridges can vary quite a bit depending on which producer manufactured the cartridges. It is therefore recommended that you carefully select your supplier of non-original ink cartridges. Read more about the quality of Pixojet's inks later in the article.

X - Dried out ink - if you print very infrequently

Another thing that you should be aware of is that compatible inks tend to dry out a little faster than original inks once they are installed in the printer, and therefore the compatible inks can block the printer's printhead. Read more about this in a section later in the article as well.

X - Images may fade out over time

If you print professional imagery with compatible ink cartridges, you may find that the images fade faster over time compared to images printed with original ink (especially if the images are exposed to sunlight). Find out the reason for this later in the article.

X - Missing compatible ink cartridges for a new printer model

We would also like to inform you that if you have purchased a new printer model, there may not have been produced any compatible ink cartridges for that printer model yet.

To begin with, you may therefore be needing to buy original ink cartridges in such a case.

What is the difference between original and compatible cartridges?

The view towards compatible cartridges is often that non-original ink cartridges is damaging one's printer and that print quality is poor compared to the quality of expensive, original ink cartridges.

Years ago, there was also a big difference between original and compatible ink cartridges, but due to new and improved technology from the manufacturers of compatible ink cartridges, this is no longer the case.

In fact, the difference in ink quality is said to be non-existent today. Below you can read about the actual differences between original and compatible ink cartridges.

An original ink cartridge is produced by the same manufacturer that produced your printer. For example, original ink cartridges for an HP printer are manufactured by HP.

A compatible ink cartridge is manufactured by a third-party manufacturer that has no affiliation with the original printer manufacturer.

Original ink cartridges are more expensive in price, since the consumables (printer ink) are the profit of printer manufacturers. The printer manufacturers' expenses for development and research must be recouped, and this results in expensive printer ink for the customers.

As you have probably already discovered, your printing costs have over time cost far more than your printer itself if you have used original ink cartridges.

The manufacturers behind the compatible ink cartridges do not have the above mentioned costs to cover and therefore compatible ink cartridges can be sold at significantly lower prices.

Other types of printer cartridges

In addition to compatible ink cartridges and original ink cartridges, Pixojet also sells refill cartridges.

If you want to know a little more about refill cartridges then read below, where we briefly tell you what characterizes the two types of printer cartridges.

Refill cartridges

Refill print cartridges are original ink cartridges that have been used once and have subsequently been returned, cleaned and refilled.

At Pixojet, however, we do not offer refill printer cartridges in that sense; instead, you are offered empty cartridge cases suitable for refilling as well as smart refill bottles containing ink, so you can refill the refill ink in your cartridges.

Refill cartridges are those of you who want to save even more on printing costs!

Nice to know about compatible ink cartridges

  • How to fix error messages

When you install compatible print cartridges in your inkjet printer, you may find that your printer reports various errors on your printer display. Is it because the non-original ink cartridges are not working? No, far from it.

In general, error messages are not something you should be intimidated by, as they can often be solved with a few tools.

The main reason for error messages is that the printer manufacturers have factory set their printers to be able to recognize non-original ink cartridges when they are installed rather than the printer manufacturers' own original printer cartridges.

This factory setting is to avoid the use of compatible cartridges so that printer manufacturers can make a higher profit on their own, original ink cartridges.

  • “Non-original Ink Cartridge Installed"

The most common example of an error message is ‘Non-original print cartridge installed'.

This error message is correct, as compatible ink cartridges are non-original ink cartridges. Most often, this error message simply requires you to click 'OK' to continue.

Other times, you may find that you need to use Pixojet's Troubleshooting Guide to resolve this issue.

  • "Low ink"

The example with the error message ‘Non-original ink cartridge installed’ makes very good sense, but you will also experience error messages that do not make much sense.

An example of an error message that does not make sense could be 'Low Ink'. The message typically appears when you install a brand new compatible / non-original ink cartridge.

For such error messages, we recommend that you read Pixojet's Troubleshooting Guide, as all our cartridges contain the number of ml specified in the item description.

At Pixojet, we have a competent customer service, which is ready to guide and help you at info@pixojet.eu so you can print smoothly and quickly get on with you printing tasks.

Moreover, at Pixojet, you can safely shop for your compatible ink cartridges without having to worry about the quality of our non-original print cartridges. We are a leading supplier of compatible ink cartridges in Denmark and Scandinavia which has acquired a top score on Trustpilot.

  • Non-original ink is drying faster than original ink - why is this?

It is true that non-original ink can dry out faster than original ink.

This is because original ink cartridges contain a chemical that prevents drying out, which is not the case for non-original ink cartridges.

Therefore, if you print less than once every two to three months, we recommend that you use original ink cartridges instead of compatible ink cartridges.

  • Compatible ink fades faster than original ink - why?

It is true that professional imagery printed with compatible ink cartridges can fade faster over time compared to images printed with original ink (especially if the images are printed on original photo paper).

This is because original print cartridges are designed to work with original photo paper. This combination will therefore often give you a better image result.

However, images printed with compatible ink have a unique print quality. The difference between a newly printed image with compatible ink and a newly printed image with original ink can therefore be extremely difficult to spot to the untrained eye.

We hope this page has helped you understand the differences (or in fact lack thereof) of compatible and original ink cartridges.

Our clear message is that compatible ink cartridges are well worth a try, so do not let the fear of the unknown keep you from saving a lot of money on your printing expenses!
